On how many computers can I use the dSONIQ Realphones?

The Realphones license extends to three systems. If you change the computer configuration or reinstall the system, you can transfer the activation to the new computer from the old one without loss. Activation takes place online in the user's account.
Do I need to buy an additional licenсe to register the plug-in on my fourth computer? Or can I buy a licenсe for one computer?
At the moment, the licenсe allows you to use three computers at the same time. You cannot buy a cheaper licenсe for one computer.
I paid, I did not receive a license. What should I do?
The licenсe must come within 15 minutes. If this does not happen, contact our support team.
Make sure that when you make a purchase, you entered the correct email address and our letter is not in the spam folder.
How can I remove Realphones?
Realphones can be removed with an uninstaller.
My trial version is not activated. What should I do?
If the trial version is not activated, write to the support service for instructions on how to manually activate the trial licence.
Can I activate a trial version if my computer is not connected to the Internet?
Yes, you can copy the HWID of a computer that does not have Internet and contact support to get a licence file for this computer. Instructions for activating the plugin: https://dsoniq.ru/installation
Connection to the signal chain
In which part of DAW signal chain do I need to include the plug-in?
The plugin is inserted on the master bus after all the effects in the insert section, or on an alternative monitor bus of the master channel.

It is important that the plugin is only on the master bus, since if you enable Realphones on a separate track, then all further processing of this channel or the channel of the master section will work after the plugin.

Do not insert Realphones on separate tracks with instruments and vocals
I launched the Stand-alone application but the sound does not change.
Stand-alone application is not able to autonomously control audio streams. Third-party audio drivers such as Virtual Audio Cable or Soundflower are required to use the application. Also, some audio interfaces have additional buses through which you can direct audio streams.
When should I turn off the plug-in?
The plug-in should be turned off when rendering the project. Correction should not be turned on when exporting the mix, since in this case it will be unsuitable for listening under normal conditions. In most sound editors, rendering processing is turned off automatically, but we recommend checking the correct operation of automatic shutdown in your DAW.
Do I need to insert Realphones before or after the limiter?
The final limiter must be inserted before Realphones, otherwise you will configure it incorrectly. Also, all analyzers must be inserted before Realphnes.
I put the plug-in on the master bus after all the effects, but there is no change in the sound. What should I do?
If the sound does not change, check if the licenсe is active.

You can see this in the "Licenсe" menu in the Licence Status line. If the licence is not active, a red Not Active message will appear. To activate the plugin, you need either a permanent or a demo licenсe.
When I turn on Realphones, the dynamics in my track decreases.
If the dynamics in the track decreases, check that the plug-in does not trigger a limiter or there is no overload. To prevent this from happening, you may need to reduce the output level control.
Can I turn on Realphones on monitors?
The plugin is intended primarily for working with sound in headphones; we do not recommend using it for work on monitors.

If nevertheless you see this as a benefit for yourself, you can use the Target menu to have an idea of how approximately your mix will sound on a particular speaker system.
In the line M S L R you can separately listen to the common mode / monophonic (M) and antiphase (S) components of the signal, as well as the left (L) and right (R) channels.

All other processing blocks you need to disable.
Setting up Realphones and working with sound
How do I get started with Realphones?
  • To work effectively with Realphones, you must have professional-grade studio headphones. List of supported headphone models.
  • Turn on the plug-in on the master bus after all the effects in the Insert section, or on the alternative monitor bus of the master channel.
  • Set your model in the headphone selection menu.
  • Go to the Presets menu and load the preset Mixing Basic - Optimised Correction - Standard Width
  • In order to adjust the sound to your perception, carefully read the User Guide.
Why are there so many presets in Realphones, which one do I need for work?
Realphones has a wide list of factory presets:

  • For mixing and critical listening - Mixing.
  • For composing and arranging, as well as for relaxed listening to music - Enjoy Music.
  • For recreating the color of sound in real control rooms with near and far field monitors - Real Control Room.
  • For stress-testing the mix in different listening conditions - Mix Check.
  • To correct the frequency response of headphones without space correction - Frequency Response.
Which Speaker Response should I choose?
To get started, we recommend choosing Subwoofer Boost and setting it to your liking in the range from 0 to 30%. We recommend an initial value of 20%. The bass boost compensates for the headphone playback features.

If you want to have an even target frequency response, without optimizations - set Speaker Response 0%

If you want to use the frequency response of the system selected in the center image, select Room Speakers in the speaker selection menu. Speakers Response set to 100%
How do I set up Realphones correctly? Can I customise it to my liking?
Choose the factory preset that works best for your job. Then you can tweak the plugin so that you want to make as little corrections as possible to the sound of the reference tracks.
Where can I listen to examples of work mixed with Realphones?
People with different skills and different headphones work with Realphones. It is unlikely that examples of mixing other people's work will give you a complete picture of the quality of work that you yourself can achieve in Realphones.
Before that, I did the mixing only in the headphones. I turn on Realphones, the sound changes a lot, I don't know what to do.
With prolonged use of the headphones, you will get used to their sound and to their mistakes. As a rule, headphones reproduce the sound picture wider and separately and dryly than studio monitors. Therefore, after the correction is turned on, it may seem that the sound has become more blurry and less separate. You need to learn to understand a new sound.
I mixed my first track with Realphones and am not happy with the result.
dSONIQ Realphones is primarily a tool for professional use. It may take time to master it.

In case you are unhappy with mixing your track:

  • configure your main working preset
  • listen to how the reference tracks sound and get used to that sound
  • pre-mix the track
  • after working on the main preset, check your mix with different Mix Checking presets
  • listen to your mix on other available devices
  • make changes to the mix
  • if necessary, repeat some steps until an acceptable result is obtained.
How do I need to work correctly: turn on Realphones occasionally or constantly?
It is recommended to work with the plug-in constantly on and off occasionally to check how your mix will sound in the headphones without correction.
What sound should I focus on: before headphone correction or after?
You need to focus on the sound after correction, since in this case you have a professional tool for work, which allows you to get an objective idea of how your track sounds.
Can I use Realphones to compose, arrange and record?
If you can achieve low latency on your system, then you can use.
Do I need to get used to the sound of the headphones after the correction of Realphones? And, if necessary, how long will it take?
From the first start, some users demonstrate an improvement in the quality and speed of their work. But many need to get used to the sound of Realphones, especially if there is no experience with monitors.

It can take up to two weeks to get used to. At this time, we recommend actively working with the plugin and periodically check your mixes in other places.
Why do I need to correct my monitor headphones if they were originally made to work in the studio?
Studio headphones are primarily designed to record and control those nuances that are hard to hear on monitors.
If you want to mix in headphones, you must apply a correction to compensate for frequency and spatial distortion.

All headphones distort the sound due to their design and this can only be fixed by signal processing.

Which headphones should I choose for work? Closed or open?
The choice of headphones depends on the conditions of further work.

Open headphones have less sound insulation than closed ones. Therefore, open headphones may not be suitable for recording vocals or for working in places where extraneous noise can interfere with work. At the same time, spatial sensations, detail and comfort are usually higher with open headphones.

Closed headphones have high sound insulation and more dense sound at low frequencies.
If Realphones corrects the sound of the headphones, I can buy the cheapest headphones and have super-sound. Right?
The result of the correction depends on the class of headphones.

As a rule, more expensive models with correction will sound better than cheaper ones, if you do not take into account subjective preferences.

When working with low-cost headphone models, as a rule, you will get less detail in sound, less timbral reliability and more harsh sound.
Why do I need to correct expensive headphones?
We recommend that you adjust not only the mid-range or low-end headphones, but also the high ones, as the fundamental flaws remain the same: uneven frequency response, hard panning left and right, lack of room reflections.
