Guide
His Rotterdam control room is designed for the full production process from the first ideas to final mastering.
Tony Verdult is a Dutch producer, songwriter, and mix engineer with two decades of experience in electronic and pop music.
From idea to mastering
Rotterdam, Holland
The room’s acoustics were designed by Jelle van der Voet (founder of Pinna Acoustics, while working at Mutrox). To compensate for its narrow width (3.20 m), custom panels were developed to combine diffusion and absorption. Unlike heavily damped control rooms, this studio sounds open and natural, with an airy, unrestricted high end.
Acoustic design: Jelle van der Voet
Tony’s studio has a lively, spacious response that reveals mix details even at comfortable, low listening levels.
Tony’s working studio
ATC SCM50A + SCS70 Pro
Tony’s primary monitoring system - for overall balance, midrange detail, and deep low-end control.
Purpose:
Lay the right foundation and overall mix structure.
The response was captured with ATC SCM50A three-way active monitors and an ATC SCS70 Pro subwoofer.
Sub Off - without subwoofer

Re-check the mix on the main monitors and see how turning off the subwoofer changes low-end perception.
Main + Sub - full spectrum

Build the balance of instruments, vocal level, and dynamics. Check how the low end and bass interact.
PMC 6-2
A second system offers a different tonal perspective for checking mix decisions.
Purpose:
Re-check the tone, vocal, and high frequencies.
The response was captured with PMC 6-2 three-way monitors.
Kick/bass interaction

An alternative perspective on the bass response.
Check balance and clarity

Precise control of vocal placement and intelligibility in the mix.
High-frequency assessment

Check high-frequency details
and tonal shape.
With and without DSP correction
Switch to Uncorrected mode with a single click - just as Tony occasionally does in the studio to assess the room’s natural acoustic response.
The entire monitoring system in the main control room is calibrated using a Trinnov Nova processor.
Client Sofa
The sofa position reveals the full power of the monitors, with a rich sense of space, deep, punchy bass, and club-like energy.
Purpose:
Check depth, spatial effects, and the track’s overall emotional impact.
Depth assessment

Check space, reverb depth, and delays.
Kick/bass interaction

Easily hear the full scale and impact of the bass in your mix
Listening from a distance

Check stereo balance and background elements beyond the tweeters’ direct axis.
Tony’s home studio
Check how your mix, built in a large, acoustically treated room with a subwoofer, translates to a compact home setup.
Purpose:
Re-check the tone, vocal, and high frequencies.
The add-on also includes Tony’s home workspace. The response was captured with the PMC two-way nearfield studio monitors installed there.
The PMC sonic signature

The same distinctive PMC tonal balance, in a compact two-way monitoring format.
Nearfield listening

Direct sound at arm’s length.
