Realphones 2: Mix Focus Set Review
Reference monitoring should be as neutral as possible, and our Reference Monitoring set achieves this.

However, sound engineers prefer using colored monitoring systems for specific tasks. These systems help simulate real-world listening environments and allow focusing on certain mix elements.

After analyzing dozens of studio monitoring systems, we selected the three most commonly used speaker voicing patterns, now available in the Mix Focus set.
1️⃣Vocal
This mode is perfect for working with vocal and instrument balances. It is based on a Yamaha NS-10 emulation, retaining its key characteristics: reduced bass response, attenuated highs, and a focus on the midrange.

Your mix may sound impressive on full-range systems but could lose its charm on small, budget speakers commonly used by many listeners.

The midrange is the most crucial part of the spectrum, with the key elements of the mix.

Yamaha NS-10 remain popular among sound engineers due to their ability to show a mix without deep low-end and focus on the midrange, vocals, and melodic instruments. Our Mix Focus - Vocal emulation has the same properties.
2️⃣Clarity
The Clarity emulation is designed for situations to focus on the most expressive elements of the mix.

Softening harsh frequencies makes the sound more pleasant and rich in high, low, and spatial details.

This mode allows you to work longer without ear fatigue, which is especially important when using headphones.

Clarity helps highlight fine, pleasing frequency and spatial details in the mix.

Additionally, Clarity is ideal for composing arrangements and sound design.
3️⃣Groove
Groove emulates far-field monitors with a low-end boost and emphasis on the foundation of the mix. This sound is typical for large spaces, clubs, and concert halls.

The sound with pronounced space reflections is ideal for groove control and kick drum tuning.

This emulation also allows you to assess how your music will be perceived in a live concert setting at high volume.
4️⃣Summary
The Mix Focus emulations feature pronounced frequency accents and coloration. This allows you to work effectively with different elements of the mix and its translation.

This set not only helps you focus on key details but also reduces ear fatigue, which is especially important during long working sessions.

The approaches in Mix Focus are based on real-world practices of professional sound engineers. This set is the result of years of accumulated experience in the professional audio industry.
