Guide
Why small studios are easier to work in
Large studios give you scale, air, and that sense of a big space. That’s important for checking depth and the overall picture of your mix. But in reality, many people find it easier to make decisions in a more familiar and compact environment.
In smaller rooms, sound doesn’t “spread out” as much over time - it comes back to you faster and helps you focus on what really matters:
Mix clarity
Transients
Low end
Vocals
Balance
Three independent studios.
Three distinct acoustic perspectives.
CAPITEL STUDIO
Full range. Zero illusion.
A balanced space for precise control.
Result: you hear your mix with zero illusion.
The acoustics minimize unwanted reflections and perceptual coloration. No added character - just an honest view of your mix and a smooth, natural decay. Use it when you need to understand what’s really going on.
Main (with subwoofer)
Full-range monitoring with a natural low-end presentation. Analyze low end and sub-bass, evaluate weight and stability, and perform final checks on foundation and air.
Near
A classic Japanese studio monitoring approach. Precision work in the midrange. Tone shaping, phase accuracy control, compression artifact detection, and resolving frequency masking.
Mini
A no-compromise reference for small systems — a long-standing broadcast industry standard. Reveals fundamental balance issues, checks translation to consumer devices, and helps spot weak points in the mix and excessive sibilance.
Listening Positions
JEKOMIDI STUDIO
Natural warmth and rhythmic cohesion
Result: the mix feels cohesive and alive.
A musical perspective where the track’s mood takes shape. Focus on soundstage, space, and a balanced tonal response. Use it when you need to understand: does the music and the space actually work?
Warm
Density and energy within the same space. Evaluate kick and bass interaction, control groove, and check the weight and body of the mix.
Main
An expansive soundstage with a detailed, analytical tonal picture. Final instrument placement, immersive control of effects, and depth positioning.
Cubes
Classic vintage cubes in an inspiring environment.
Focused control of a critical narrow frequency range with added sense of space. Great for analyzing lead vocals, backing vocals, and supporting layers in the mix.
LISTENING POSITIONS
SOUND SPACE
Depth, clarity, and precision
Result: you start to “see” your mix clearly.
Control over sub-bass, fast transients, and fine detail. Tight imaging and spatial accuracy. Use it when you need to understand how the rhythmic foundation works and exactly where elements sit in the mix.
Main
High-end three-way monitoring for critical listening. Punchy, controlled low end. Clear transient definition. Control over kick attack and sustain, fast micro-details, and overall mix transparency.
Near
Legendary British monitoring. Control masking and analyze clarity in dense arrangements.
Cubes
Baseline balance check. Reveal frequency conflicts, verify vocals and lead elements.

How to work with it
You’re not looking for a studio where your mix sounds “good”. You’re listening across different perspectives. One monitoring setup may hide an issue that another reveals immediately: Midrange dips, vocal masking, unstable low end, harsh transients, overcrowded space.
A great mix should translate consistently across multiple monitoring systems.
Each studio reveals the mix differently.
That contrast is what builds an objective picture.

I decided to mix the entire track in headphones using Realphones. After adjusting a few plugin settings, I got to work.

The result exceeded all expectations. Checking the mix on studio monitors showed that it was quite accurate. The realism of the emulation was impressive. While working on the mix, I would occasionally forget that I was wearing headphones, and a few times my hand automatically reached for the monitor volume controller. Today, the plugin proved to be a great helper, especially when there’s no access to a studio. For me, it doesn’t replace monitors, but it is a valuable tool.

Now my studio is always with me!

I like the “Cubes” emulation in the Sound Space studio the most - it’s a very convenient tool for me.

I mixed a song in headphones: for example, it has a lot of midrange instruments. When mixing in full-range mode, it’s very difficult to find space for the vocal in all that variety. But “Cubes” immediately shows where the problem is.

This emulation is also convenient for checking the vocal timbre in the upper-midrange area and cleaning up resonances.
